BREAKDOWN

BIG RED SUN by John Jiler and Georgia Stitt (World Premiere)

HARRY DAIMLER: (male, Caucasian, 16-17) High Tenor, strong rock/pop and contemporary musical theatre singer. Harry is a headstrong, idealistic, suburban teenager who is an ambitious, aspiring musician. He is determined to get answers about his father’s life and death. Later doubles as a young German soldier.

CHARACTER WOMAN:(female, Caucasian, Late 20s-early 40s) Soprano/Mezzo with a strong belt and mix. Must be an excellent and versatile actress, able to play multiple roles such as a French chanteuse, office clerk, a Yiddish aunt and a variety of musicians/singers.

Already Cast:
EDDIE DAIMLER: (Caucasian , 25- 40) Baritone. Harry’s father. An ambitious, Jewish songwriter who is charismatic and persuasive. Creates a band with Helen and James, that is ahead of it’s time. Struggles to deal with some dark memories from his past.

HELEN RYAN DAIMLER: (Caucasian, 20-35) Soprano/Mezzo, Belt and Mix. Harry’s mother. An Irish torch singer. In her youth, she’s bold, energetic and not afraid to break a few rules. In her later years, she struggles with her husband’s death and being a single parent, and is much more careful with her emotions and taking risks.

JAMES L. JOHNSON: (African American, 25-40) Bari-tenor. A talented, jazz musician who in his 20s is skeptical, yet optimistic about his career and the potential to make it big in his band with Helen and Eddie. In his 40s, he seems to have lived more years than his age and is a little burnt out and pessimistic about his place in the music business. He becomes a mentor to Harry, who ultimately inspires him to renew his passion.

CHARACTER MAN (Caucasian, late 20s-early 40s), Baritone. Must be an excellent and versatile actor, able to play multiple roles such as a mayor, soldier, rabbi, and a variety of musicians/singers.

Note: For all roles that have been cast, actors will be considered for possible replacements if needed.
