Uptown Players, a professional theater group located in the Uptown area of Dallas, has announced its 2017-2018 season at the Kalita Humphreys Theater and Dallas City Performance Hall. The season will feature the regional premieres of the four-time 2011 Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk nominated musical, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and the hilarious 2015 Off-Broadway hit comedies The Legend of Georgia McBride and Perfect Arrangement. Also in the season lineup are the Tony Award-winning Musical The Full Monty along with the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, A Chorus Line, which will be presented at the Dallas City Performance Hall. Rounding out its 2017-2018 season is its annual fundraising production, Broadway Our Way.

2017-2018 SEASON OVERVIEW

The Full Monty: October 20 - November 5, 2017

The Full Monty follows six down-on-their luck steelworkers who are desperately seeking employment and a paycheck to support their families- until they come up with a bold way to make some quick cash. As the guys work through their fears, self-consciousness, feelings of worthlessness and anxieties, they come to discover that not only are they stronger as a group, but that the strength they find in each other gives them the individual courage to face their demons and overcome them. The Americanized musical stage version of the 1997 British film, The Full Monty boasts a book by Terrence McNally and a score by David Yazbek. It was nominated for nine Tony awards, including Best Musical, when it shimmied its way onto Broadway in 2000.The Full Monty will be directed by Cheryl Denson and will take place at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.

The Legend of Georgia McBride: December 1 - 17, 2017

Uptown Players continues its season with the regional premiere of the 2015 Off-Broadway hit comedy The Legend of Georgia McBride, starring Kyle Igneczi in the title role. After years of struggling at a small-time club in the Florida Panhandle, Casey (Igneczi) realizes it's now or never for his career as an Elvis impersonator. He's young, he's broke, his landlord's knocking at the door, and he's just found out his wife is going to have a baby. Enter Miss Tracy Mills, a self-proclaimed grand dame of drag who guarantees Casey's life is about to get "all shook up." Matthew Lopez's hip-shakin', heartwarming tale explores what happens when one man trades in his blue suede shoes for platform pumps and discovers "he ain't nothing but a drag queen". The Legend of Georgia McBride will be directed by Bruce R. Coleman at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.

A Chorus Line: February 2 - 4, 2018

A Chorus Line is a celebration of those unsung heroes of the American Musical Theatre as it takes the audience through the final grueling audition for a new Broadway musical. A Chorus Line provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. With music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban, and a book by James Kirkwood Jr andNicholas Dante, A Chorus Line will be directed by Jeremy Dumont and will take place for one weekend only at the Dallas City Performance Hall in the Arts District.

Broadway Our Way: June 14 - June 17, 2018

The Uptown Players divas return for another entertaining weekend of Broadway music with plenty of twists, laughs and surprises. The evening features many of your favorite actors from past Uptown Players seasons performing selections from Broadway shows, both past and present, all done with an Uptown Players twist! Our annual fundraiser Broadway Our Way is sure to be a hot ticket with only four performances in June of 2018 at the Kalita Humphreys Theater. For the seventh straight year, the show will be written and directed by B. J. Cleveland.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert: July 13 - July 29, 2018

With book by Stephan Elliot and Allan Scott, complete with a non-stop dazzling array of imaginative and outrageous costumes, Uptown Players is excited to include Priscilla Queen of the Desert in its 2017-2018 season. Adapted from the 1994 Academy Award® winning film,Priscilla Queen of the Desert is the heartwarming, uplifting musical adventure of three friends, Tick, Bernadette and Adam (two drag queens and a transsexual), who take their show to the middle of the Australian outback. Aboard a battered old bus called Priscilla, they search for love and friendship and end up finding more than they ever could have dreamed. With a hit parade of dancefloor favorites including "It's Raining Men", "I Will Survive", "Hot Stuff", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", and "I Love The Nightlife", this wildly fresh and funny musical is a journey to the heart of FABULOUS! Get your glitter on and take the ride of your life with this hilarious and heartwarming Tony Award-winning Broadway musical at the Kalita Humphreys Theater. Priscilla Queen of the Desert will be directed by Cheryl Denson.

Perfect Arrangement: August 24 - September 2, 2018

To close its 17th season, Uptown Players will present the regional premiere of Topher Payne's,Perfect Arrangement. It's 1950, and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been tasked with identifying sexual deviants within their ranks. There's just one problem: Both Bob and Norma are gay, and have married each other's partners as a carefully constructed cover. Inspired by the true story of the earliest stirrings of the American gay rights movement, madcap classic sitcom-style laughs give way to provocative drama as two "All-American" couples are forced to stare down the closet door. The production will be directed by B. J. Cleveland and will take place at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.

Individual ticket prices for all shows range from $25 to $55. Performances at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd at Blackburn, will run at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and 2 p.m.on Sundays. Performances at City Performance Hall, 2520 Flora Street are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturdayand 2 p.m. on Sunday. Four, five, or six show season ticket flex packages are available and include great discounts on both premium and regular seating.
