Rover Dramawerks Announces 2009-10 Season, Opens With Premiere! Premiere! 10/29

Rover Dramawerks is pleased to announce their Tenth Anniversary Season. Rover Dramawerks' 2009-10 Season will be A Year of Premieres.

Rover is kicking off the new season with a Regional Premiere CALLED Premiere! Premiere! by Dale Wasserman (author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) runs October 29 - November 21, 2009, at the Cox Building Playhouse. From the creator of one of the most famous of petty tyrants comes a look at the petty tyranny of fame. Gil is the comedic playwright of his day, doomed to hit after hit when all he wants is to be taken seriously, darkly, academically. Like...dare he say it? The Bard. A hilarious series of events leads to the discovery of a "new" long lost tragedy by William Shakespeare. Will the truth be uncovered or will the literary world be fooled forever?

Following Premiere! is the Regional Premiere of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize Winner, Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire (author of Fuddy Meers and Kimberly Akimbo), running January 21 - February 13, 2010, at the Cox Building Playhouse. Becca and Howie have everything a family could want until the unthinkable happens, turning their world upside down. Their well-meaning family members do their best to help (and deal with the tragedy themselves), as everyone tries to come to grips with their grief. Rabbit Hole charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them all back into the light of day.

Rover returns to the Courtyard Theater of Plano for the Regional Premiere of Mark Twain's A Murder, a Mystery & a Marriage, a musical by Aaron Posner and James Sugg (based on a long-lost short story by Mark Twain), running March 4-20, 2010. Mary wants to tie the knot with her sweetheart Hugh, but if they walk down the aisle, she'll be disinherited. The shocking discovery of a dastardly deed further complicates her choice and may throw her into the arms of a "mysterious stranger." Who is the good guy and who is the bad? Will Mary marry the wrong man? Or will love and truth save the day? Only the wit, wisdom, and satirical humor of Mark Twain could answer these questions as this outrageous bluegrass musical unfolds to its just conclusion!

Everything in the Garden, by Edward Albee (author of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and The Zoo Story) was Rover Dramawerks' premiere production - the show that started it all back in 2001! They are pleased to bring back this rarely performed gem to the Cox Building Playhouse, running May 20 - June 12, 2010. "Keeping up with the Joneses" is a well-known sport in suburbia: McMansions, luxury cars, private schools.... Jenny and Richard are suburbanites living just above their means. When Jenny receives an unusual offer to make more money than they have ever dreamed of, money and possessions seduce their lives, and the slippery slope of compromise, convenience, and conspicuous consumption threaten to lay waste to the façade of their calm, middle-class neighborhood. A modern morality play that has never been more timely.

Everything in the Garden is followed by the Regional Premiere of a brand-spanking new farce, Dilemmas With Dinner by Robin Roberts, running July 15 - August 7, 2010, at the Cox Building Playhouse. You think you've had some bad dinner parties? Brooke, an ambitious junior executive, invites her boss and his wife over for dinner in the hopes of securing a promotion. Her husband comes home suffering a back injury from a now ex-employee who won't take "fired" for an answer. The hired help turns out to be the boss' ex-daughter-in-law. A riotous farce complete with doors slamming, appetizers flying, and candlesticks attacking - all before dinner is even served. And Brooke's boss has an announcement to make....

Rounding out the season is Adventures in Mating, by Joseph Scrimshaw. After many highly successful productions throughout the country, Rover is thrilled to bring the Regional Premiere of this "create your own adventure" story for grown-ups to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, running September 9 - October 2, 2010, at the Cox Building Playhouse. YOU play the role of cruel fate in a romantic comedy for cynics of all ages! When a dysfunctional couple can't make simple decisions, like ordering red or white wine, the audience votes and the show takes off in wildly different directions. Soup or salad? A slap or a kiss? Life or death? YOU DECIDE! With multiple storylines and endings, plus ever-changing scene options, you can't see it all if you only see it once!

Rover Dramawerks is also pleased to present TWO of their popular One Day Only play festivals during Season 10. One Day Only 14 will be May 1, 2010 and One Day Only 15 will be August 28, 2010, both at the Courtyard Theater. Two signature 24-hour play festivals featuring seven World Premieres from concept to curtain in just one day!
