It's the end of the road for MIKE & MOLLY.

NBC has announced the cancellation of its long-running comedy MIKE & MOLLY, starring Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy. After being one of the first two shows of the '15-16 season to be renewed by NBC, the show will conclude following its sixth season in 2016.

"The network has its reasons, and I will not get into a debate, discussion, or campaign to get them to change their minds," star Rondi Reed wrote on Facebook. "Other venues were explored by WB and Bonanza Productions (Chuck Lorre) after CBS announced their intentions, but did not turn up a future for our show."

Reed says they have been aware of the impending cancellation for some time and that the show has made a tremendous impact on her. "It is a fact and we have known for a few weeks. I remain extremely grateful to have been a part of this and to have worked with a fabulous bunch of folks over the years. I have learned a lot about many things, including the Business we call Show. Also grateful for all the fans and for the personal support I have received over the (almost) 6 seasons."

MIKE & MOLLY stars Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy in a comedy about a working-class Chicago couple who had almost given up on love...and then found each other. Officer Mike Biggs is a good-hearted cop who works the beat with his fast-talking, wise guy partner, Officer Carl McMillan. When he least expected it, Mike met Molly Flynn, an instantly likeable fourth grade teacher with whom he's immediately smitten. Their relationship blossomed, and after realizing they were meant for one another, they got married. Molly now has embarked on a career change as she has her sights set on being a writer.

While attending the prestigious Iowa Writing Workshop, Molly sells her romance novel, but the excitement is short-lived as she now faces the pressures of meeting deadlines, taking notes from her opinionated publisher and dealing with her own insecurities as a writer. Mike & Molly live with her sexy older sister, Victoria, and their flirtatious, wine-loving mother, Joyce. Mike and Carl frequent a diner where they've become friends with Senegalese waiter, Samuel. Mike's other friend is Harry, his Overeater's Anonymous partner who he met at a Cubs game. Often, Mike and Molly's relationship is complicated by interference from his mom, Peggy, and Carl's Grandma and Joyce's husband, Vince, who offer unsolicited advice on love.

Mike, aside from living with his in-laws, has to deal with his partner dating Molly's sister, and supporting his wife while riding the roller coaster of being married to a published author.
