Matt Bomer Muses On Future Stage Roles, Preferably In Plays Not Musicals

Versatile stage and screen star Matt Bomer shares his thoughts on taking on a future theatrical headlining gig following the premiere of THE NORMAL HEART on HBO later this month as well as much more as part of a new interview.

Broaching the topic of Broadway and what ideally he would like to pursue onstage in the future, particularly now that he is featured in the new stage-to-screen adaptation of Larry Kramer's THE NORMAL HEART coming soon to HBO, Bomer reveals he would prefer to do a play rather than a musical.

"I appreciate that medium profoundly and I have the utmost respect for it, but it's not very shiny to me," Bomer says of musical theatre.

Furthermore, Bomer reveals, "I'd much rather do Rocket to the Moon, by Odets, or Orpheus Descending, by Williams, or something like that."

Commenting on his own upbringing and how Larry Kramer's THE NORMAL HEART affected him personally, Bomer adds, "I was relatively sheltered. It wasn't until I read Larry's work that I had any kind of understanding as to what was really going on in the world around me."

Bomer concludes, "It just lit this fire in my belly."
