It has been more than 10 years since Heart-Centered Leadership (HCL) pioneers, Susan Steinbrecher and Joel Bennett, Ph.D, first introduced Heart-Centered Leadership: An Invitation to Lead From the Inside Out (2003). At that time, the book resonated deeply with many readers and was thought to be way ahead of its time, and yet, the authors were often met with cynicism that the heart-centered principles they were espousing would ever be embraced, let alone be put into practice in the "real" business world. In spite of some initial resistance, the book and the principles of Heart-Centered Leadership continued to gain momentum, year after year.

In fact, what followed was a multitude of books by other authors, inspired by Steinbrecher and Bennett's publication, emphasizing the very same benefits of leadership driven by the seven principles and corresponding virtues of heart-centered values of truthfulness and integrity featured in Heart-Centred Leadership - in direct opposition to the hardnosed, Wall Street-esque pursuit of profit at any and all cost.

The tide has undeniably shifted, and the renewed message of Heart-Centered Leadership: Lead Well, Live Well, (Second Edition) now answers what seems to be a universal call for progressive change within the workplace.

Academic and real-world research suggests that the principles of Heart-Centered Leadership are associated with a variety of critical business success factors, including greater financial health. In one study, it was found that the most financially successful companies had leaders with the same heart-centered qualities Steinbrecher and Bennett outline in their book: humility, self-honesty, open-mindedness, and consideration for the impact they had on others. This and other research indicates that Heart-Centered Leadership is not just a nice idea or theory or some magical dream. Rather, as businesses grow and the speed of commerce increases, the core virtues of Heart-Centered Leadership will become increasingly necessary. (See website for resources.)

Packed with new science-based studies and research, fascinating interviews, exercises and insights, this transformational business book is one that is keenly attuned to the growing awareness of the need for more mindful leadership. Heart-Centered Leadership: Lead Well, Live Well will inspire and empower those who serve in a leadership position with the knowledge that authenticity, mutual respect and self-care have a deeply significant impact on the satisfaction and well-being of their associates and, by extension, the bottom line. The result is tuned-in, emotionally connected, highly engaged employees who are truly motivated to work toward a common goal of success.
