Kurt Hanson has been named Vice President, Engineering Services and Systems Support for the Broadcasting Operations and Engineering division of the ABC Television Network. The announcement was made today by Todd Donovan, Senior Vice President of BO&E, to whom he will report. Mr. Hanson takes the position vacated by Ken Michel, who is retiring after 34 years with the company.

"We're privileged to have such great talent inside the Disney|ABC Television Group and very pleased to have an executive of Kurt's caliber join our team from within the Company," said Mr. Donovan. "He has the vision and experience to help our division towards our goal of building the best television engineering and support organization in the industry for our business partners."

Mr. Hanson joins BO&E from ABC's New York owned station, WABC-TV, the most watched television station in the country. There he led the technology team as Vice President of Engineering and Technology, a position he held for the past five years. During his tenure, he spearheaded the final transition to HD for Eyewitness News, led the construction of WABC's street side studio and Live with Kelly & Michael's expanded multi-tier set and their final HD transition.

Prior to being named Vice President, he was Chief Engineer at WABC for 12 years, where he built its first automated production control room, and transitioned the station from analog to digital, which required major overhauls of the entire technical plant, and improved the station's electrical and HVAC services. He began his career at WABC in 1996 in their Engineering and Maintenance group.

Before joining WABC, Mr. Hanson worked for several stations in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He worked for WTIC in Hartford from 1993-1996, serving as Engineering Supervisor and Senior Engineer. He also worked at Hartford stations WTIC-TV and WFSB-TV, as well as Springfield station WGGB-TV.

He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Harford.
