Access Hollywood reports that Kathy Griffin confirmed the news at Equality's Now's "Make Equality Reality" event Monday night that she has been offered the opportunity to take over for Joan Rivers as host of E!'s FASHION POLICE. Rivers died unexpectedly in September following a routine endoscopy procedure.

"They did offer it to me," Griffin told Access Hollywood. "I don't know if the situation is correct at this time for me or right for me at this time."

She continued, "I really hope they continue in the spirit of Joan's work," she said. "She brought a fearlessness and a brand of humor into our homes that we really need. Somebody's gotta be out there poking fun at the RIDICULOUSNESS of all of this!"

Reps at E! said the network is currently in negotiations and will not make a formal announcement at this time.

"Fashion Police" premiered on E! in 2010, and features hosts Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne, George Kotsiopoulos and Rivers, prior to her death on Sept. 4. The show is currently on hiatus but will return to the network in 2015.
