CBS is thinning its programming herd, going into its upfront presentations next week.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has ditched the long-running spin-off, CSI: NY, as well as its below-the-radar comedy RULES OF ENGAGEMENT. Also on the cutting room floor are freshman crime dramas Golden Boy and VEGAS.

CSI: NY, a crime drama inspired by the drama series CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, is about forensic investigators who use high-tech science to follow the evidence and solve crimes in the Big Apple. It's proven to be a hit for the Friday night market, but the network ultimately decided not to move forward.

Rules of Engagement is a comedy about the different phases of male/female relationships, as seen through the eyes of an engaged couple, Adam and Jennifer; a long-time married pair, Jeff and Audrey; a single guy on the prowl, Russell; and his office assistant, Timmy. Despite airing for seven seasons, the show never gained a huge following, often being the "stand-in" for other comedies that were cancelled. RULES was also picked up by TBS for syndication.

VEGAS and Golden Boy ultimately couldn't find a suitable time slot on the network. Each show switched with the other this spring, with Golden Boy moving to Tuesday, and VEGAS being bumped to Friday. Both consistently drew in less than 10 million viewers, which ultimately, wasn't enough for the network to grant a renewal.
