It's that time of year again when we are reminded that the world is going to hell and the apocalypse is near. However, I decided to watch FEAR THE WALKING DEAD instead of the VMA's. Yup, old and cranky, that's me. But let's get back to the fictional apocalypse.

Alicia decides to go on check on Matt and finds his house more like a crime scene where he is desperately ill. Travis, Nick and Madison who are finally reacting to what they have just seen happen to Cal finally get in touch with her and head to Matt's. When they realize he has been affected by the mysterious virus, it is Matt that has to convince Alicia to leave with her family for her own protection. Madison takes her kids home and Travis heads out to find his son, Chris. Alicia is stuck nursing a detoxing Nick back to health as he convinces her to stay with him and not go see Matt. Madison takes off to the school to try and find some medicine to aid Nick through his detox. She runs into troubled student, Tobias, who desperately tries to explain to her exactly what is going on while he stocks up on the cafeteria's canned goods, even if she won't listen. It isn't until she comes upon a zombified Principal Artie who tries to kill Tobias, that she sees the reality. After saving Tobias from Artie, the two escape and she heads home to try and figure out what to tell her kids.

Travis locates Liza who is also skeptical until she realizes what grave danger Chris may be in. The two rescue Chris who is caught in an impending riot and the three take refuge in the Salazar Barber shop where Daniel, Griselda and Ofelia let them stay. The riot worsens with time. It's not one of those regular LA, "Hey, we just won/lost a championship" riots, this one was getting scary. Travis tries to explain what is happening to the skeptics. He calls Madison to tell her he is trapped and for her to get out of the city without him, but she vows to wait. Outside her house, their neighbor attacks and kills another neighbor much to Alicia's horror. A very fragile Madison is now on the hook to tell her daughter exactly what is happening. There really was no escaping it now. It is time for she and her kids to get on the same page and figure out a game plan. And fast!

Well, if there is one thing I know, anyone who is walking slow motion through an empty school is probably about to meet their doom. Poor Principal Artie, we barely knew ye. Although another example of AMC's "Take No Prisoners" policy as they will wipe out main characters with no sweat off their back. I hope nobody was attached to Artie. Although I was more in fear for Tobias' life. I hope that isn't the last we have seen of sweet Tobias, he really does seem to be the only one who knows what's going on. Hint, in the apocalypse, stick with the internet nerds, they really do know what's up. But as with that other show about walkers, I'm frightened to get attached to anyone. First Artie, more than likely Matt, nearly Tobias... I get it, Robert Kirkman, no one is safe!

We also are introduced to some new characters; the Salazar family. We didn't get too much information on them except that Griselda is incredibly religious and is relying on prayer to help them through this riot outside. My only qualm is how long it took Travis and Liza to get to Downtown. It takes a good hour on a non pre-apocalyptic day in traffic and yet they got there in minutes? Granted I don't know exactly where Liza lives, but still, just a minor grievance. #localhumor

Did Tobias have a seizure? Was that an existing condition because Alicia seemed more aggravated by it than scared? Anyone else concerned that there will be a love triangle between Travis, Liza and Madison? Will Chris ever forgive his father? And what for? By all accounts, Travis seems to be a pretty stand up guy?

It is clear now that even the skeptics are going to have trouble denouncing this epidemic as the walkers (are they named that yet?) are multiplying quickly. Cal was shot, Matt was bitten, we don't know what happened to Principal Artie or next door neighbor, but it shouldn't take them that long to figure out that regardless of the cause of death, they're in trouble.
