Alfre Woodard to Play U.S. President in NBC Pilot STATE OF AFFAIRS

Deadline reports that Alfre Woodard will take on the role of the President of the United States in NBC's upocoming drama pilot STATE OF AFFAIRS. The actress will star oppostite Katherine Heigl in the project, directed by Joe Carnahan and produced by Universal TV.

The drama will center on a key CIA attaché (Heigl) who "counsels the president (Woodard) on high-stakes incidents around the world."

Alexi Hawley and Carnahan will excutive produce along with Heigl, Bob Simonds, Henry Crumpton and Julia Franz.

Woodard will soon appear on the big screen in Knucklehead. She recently appeared in this year's Oscar-nominated film 12 Years a Slave.

Among her many TV credits are Copper, True Blood, Memphis Beat, Three Rivers, Black Panther, My Own Worst Enemy, Desperate Housewives and more.

The actress has also appeared on Broadway in Me and Bessie and Drowning Crow, as well as the recent Lifetime TV movie version of the play Steel Magnolias.
