Variety reports that ABC is planning a special episode of its hit comedy series THE GOLDBERGS which will pay homage to the classic 1987 film DIRTY DANCING, which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

Explained THE GOLDBERG's creator/executive producer Adam F. Goldberg in a statement: "'Dirty Dancing' is a huge '80s cultural touchstone - the music, the memorable lines, and of course, Swayze. No one loved it more than my mom. I'll always remember how she dragged me to see it in the theaters several times and then bought it on video. I knew this was our big movie to explore this season when all of the writers on the show also had their very own 'Dirty Dancing' memories from years ago. It really is a gem of the '80s and it's so exciting to bring it to life with my amazing cast."

This will not be the first time the series, which is set in the 1980's, paid tribute to a classic film from the decade. Episodes centering on THE GOONIES and FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF have aired on past sesaons.

No date has been announced for the 'Dirty Dancing' episode.

THE GOLDBERGS stars Sean Giambrone, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia and George Segal, with Patton Oswalt as the narrator.
