Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Bauhaus with Colored Vinyl Reissues

Late 2018 will mark the 40th anniversary of Bauhaus. To celebrate, Beggars Arkive is reissuing records from the band's catalog on limited edition colored vinyl. In The Flat Field and Mask will be released on October 26th. November 23rd will bring The Sky's Gone Out and Press The Eject And Give Me The Tape, which is being pressed in the US for the first time and is exclusive to US Record Store Day Black Vinyl retailers. Also on this date, Leaving Records (a partner of Stones Throw Records) will release the band's first recording ever, The Bela Session including three previously unreleased tracks and a remastered version of "Bela Lugosi's Dead." For details, please visit http://www.stonesthrow.com/news/2018/09/bauhaus. On December 7th, the Arkive series concludes with releases of Burning From The Inside and Crackle.

Formed in 1978, The legendary and hugely influential quartet hailed from Northampton, England and is comprised of Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash,David J and Kevin Haskins. The dark, dramatic music that they made, possessed far more force, variety and playfulness than the "founding fathers of goth" tag that is always attached to them.

Bauhaus' landmark debut album, In the Flat Field, came out towards the end of 4AD's first eventful year. Following the plan at the time, the band then "moved upstairs" to Beggars Banquet, for whom they made three further albums before dissolving in 1983. They charted with their cover of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust", and they've been name checked by everyone from Nine Inch Nails, Sepultura, Janes Addiction, MGMT, Interpol, Bjork, Nirvana and more. They remain a huge cult concern, periodically reforming to wow their legions of dedicated followers.

The band's members continue to make new music. Peter Murphy enjoys a successful solo career and both Daniel Ash and David J have released a number of critically acclaimed solo albums and collaborative projects. Love And Rockets consisted of Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins.Tones On Tail was comprised of Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins. Poptone is a retrospective project, featuring Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins and his daughter Diva Dompé, revisiting the music of Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, and Love and Rockets.

October 26th - In The Flat Field - bronze vinyl

In The Flat Field is the band's debut studio album, released by 4AD and considered to be one of the very first "goth" albums. This was mastered from HD audio files transferred from the original tapes.

"this record's influence on the impending goth scene cannot be underestimated or denied" - Drowned In Sound

October 26th - Mask - yellow vinyl

Mask is the band's second album, and was released by Beggars Banquet in 1981. This album is mastered from HD audio files transferred from the original tapes

"their second album and masterpiece.....a record that stretched out their aural madness in every direction possible with pure noise and the space of dub clashing against each other." - Louder Than War

November 23rd (Record Store Day Black Friday (US)) - Press The Eject And Give Me The Tape - white vinyl

(Record Store Day Black Friday titles are available exclusively at participating indie record stores. More detail and store list: recordstoreday.com)

This marks the very first US pressing of this album. Released in 1982, this is a live album, compiled from shows across the UK from 1981-82. Press the Eject... features a striking version of John Cale's "Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores," a particularly spooky run-through of "Hollow Hills" that out-creeps the studio version on Mask, and the punk rock fuzz-out of "Dark Entries". Of course, "Bela..." appears here as well, in a luxurious nine-and-a-half-minute version. Washed in feedback and ever-so subtly accelerating and decelerating, this song is the true center of "Goth" mythology. This was mastered from HD audio files transferred from the original tapes.

November 23rd - The Sky's Gone Out (not available in North America) - violet vinyl

The Sky's Gone Out is the band's third album, released in 1982 and mastered from HD audio files transferred from the original tapes

"one of the top 10 essential goth albums" - Alternative press

December 7th - Burning From The Inside (not available in North America) - blue vinyl

Burning From The Inside was Bauhaus' fourth album and was the last of their studio albums of this era, released just after the band's breakup in 1983. This was mastered from HD audio files transferred from the original tapes

December 7th - Crackle - ruby vinyl

Crackle is a selection of Bauhaus' finest from their catalog. Includes the 'Tomb Raider Mix' of "Bela Lugosi's Dead." All Music described it as "an excellent single-disc overview of the group's brief career, containing all of their essential songs...it's nice that there's finally a thorough single-disc retrospective of the groundbreaking goth quartet" and Pitchfork said it is "a fine retrospective of the material that both Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson claim was a "major influence" of their music."
