Carmen Souza, winner of title Best Female Singer and Best Morna at the Cape Verdean 'Grammys', singer, composer and musician with a unique and personal voice that combines traditional rhythms with Brazilian and Jazz influences. Born and raised in Lisbon and now based in London, Souza sings in Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, English and French.

Her 2005 debut album, Ess ê nha Cabo Verde, catapulted her into the top ranks of rising Cape Verdean stars. Since then she performs in festivals around the world, such as WOMAD and The North Sea Jazz Festival. To the Hot Jazz series she will arrive this upcoming July along with Theo Pascal, her musical director, teacher, mentor and one of the greatest bass players in Portugal. They have been working together since 1999.
Carmen Souza plays on both piano and guitar and either composes her songs or co-composes them along with Theo Pascal.

Until today she published 8 albums, including an album she recorded with Pascal and decided to donate half of her proceeds from the album.

Among the hits they plan to perform: Donna Lee, Cape Verdean Blues, Song for My Father.
