Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone to Star in New 'Rocky' Film CREED; Production to Begin 2015

Showbiz411's Roger Friedman reports exclusively that a new installment of the ROCKY film franchise, to be titled CREED, has been confirmed.

"Fruitvale Station"'s Ryan Coogler will helm the project which is set to begin production in January of 2015. Michael B. Jordan will star as "Adonis Creed", the grandson of Rocky's first opponent, Apollo Creed. Sylvester Stallone will once again return to the iconic role of Rocky Balboa, who will coach young Creed in a title match.

Coogler originally pitched the idea to Stallone and producer Irwin Winkler. The project will be filmed in Philadelphia, the setting for the original Rocky films. Other characters expected to be featured are Adonis's deaf half-sister, a potential romantic interest for Adonis, a character named Joe who co-owns Mickey's gym with Rocky. a former boxer named Pete, and a "Mickey-like" character named Marcel, who's Latino and assists with Adonis's training."
