The Cherry Arts, a new not-for-profit theatre company based in Ithaca and Brooklyn NY, will produce in September the new play A Cherry Timedive, currently in rehearsal. Written by four exceptional writers based in Ithaca, NY, Timedive is a lyrical and mysterious plunge into the histories of one storied corner of that town. The cast of A Cherry Timedive is Carolyn Goelzer, Jennifer Herzog, Godfrey Simmons, and Seth Soulstein. Dramaturgy is by performance scholar Nick Salvato, and the piece is conceived and directed by the company's Artistic Director, Samuel Buggeln.

A Cherry Timedive will perform on the site of the future Cherry Artspace at 102 Cherry Street, at 7:15 PM, Thursday thru Sunday, September 17-20. Performances are site-specific and open-air. The Cherry is exploring for Timedive an innovative ticketing model in which ticket price is voluntary and pegged to audience members' self-diagnosis (e.g., "gainfully employed," "quite gainfully employed"). Seventy-five percent of ticket income will go directly to the artists. Tickets may be purchased at The Cherry's website, thecherryartspace.org.

Timedive kicks off The Cherry Arts's plans to construct a multidisciplinary artspace at 102 Cherry Street in Ithaca. The space, to be known as The Cherry Artspace- or simply The Cherry- will house theatre, dance, music, concerts, puppetry, visual arts, and other exceptional works from the Ithaca area and beyond.

The Cherry will also create new theatre as the home of a collective ensemble of Ithaca-area professional theatre artists. These artists, who in many cases are current or former faculty members at Ithaca College or Cornell, often work on an international scale but have lacked a venue in which to create work at home. The Cherry will provide a forum for these artists to create new work over extended rehearsal periods, first for a local audience and eventually for tour or New York showing. The Cherry's homegrown work will have three thrusts: the radically local, the radically international, and the formally innovative. These principles, alongside The Cherry's resident ensemble structure, will move the work presented by The Cherry excitingly outside the mandates of most US regional theatres.
