Brad Zimmerman's MY SON THE WAITER Coming to Southern California This Spring

Difficult mothers you live in fear of disappointing? Check. Deferred dreams? Check. Dead-end job? Check. All key components that make up Brad Zimmerman's lengthy struggle of making it as an actor in New York - a struggle that resulted in a hit one-man show.

Zimmerman brings his Off-Broadway sensation "My Son the Waiter: A Jewish Tragedy" to Southern California for a brief run at the Huntington Beach Library Theater April 20 - May 14. The play is part theatrical and part standup, and will leave audience members in stitches with its sardonic commentary on Zimmerman's table-waiting days and its old-school Jewish humor featuring his overbearing mother, thrifty father and misbegotten love life.

Based on his own life journey, Zimmerman - whom Joan Rivers described as "one of the three great opening acts in my lifetime" alongside Billy Crystal and Garry Shandling - weaves stories of his childhood, his Jewish mother's not-so-secret wish of him becoming a doctor, lawyer or some other wildly successful, stable career man, the 29 years he spent "temporarily" waiting tables served with a side of self-loathing, and his not-so-blossoming love life.

Performances of "My Son the Waiter" are Thursdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $45 to $65. Group discounts available.
