Winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition (2009) and the Yehudi Menuhin Competition (2008), Ray Chen is among the most compelling young violinists today. His premiere album Virtuoso, released worldwide on Sony Classical in 2011, won the prestigious Echo Klassik Award.

Following its success, Ray Chen was profiled by The Strad and Gramophone magazines as "the one to watch". The second recording, featuring the Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn violin concertos, was the result of Ray Chen's artistic partnership with Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Orchestra. "It's hard to say something new with these celebrated works. However, Ray Chen performs them with the kind of authority that puts him in the same category as Maxim Vengerov." (Corriere della Sera) In Maestro Vengerov's own words: "Ray has proven himself to be a very pure musician with great qualities such as a beautiful youthful tone, vitality and lightness. He has all the skills of a truly musical interpreter."

Ray Chen continues to win the admiration of fans and fellow musicians worldwide. Last year's Verbier Festival and La Scala Philharmonic performances resulted in immediate re-engagements. He received standing ovations at Ravinia and Schleswig-Holstein Festivals, where he was featured by the Munich Philharmonic. Ray Chen is looking forward to performing at the Nobel Prize concert in Stockholm with Maestro Christoph Eschenbach and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra later this year. Other highlights of the upcoming season include his Carnegie Hall and Musikverein debuts, Israel Philharmonic and Gewandhaus Orchestra tours and recitals in Paris, Brussels, Rotterdam, London and Tokyo.

Born in Taiwan and raised in Australia, Ray Chen was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music at the age of 15, where he studied with Aaron Rosand. He plays the 1702 "Lord Newlands" Stradivarius violin on generous loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
