The Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus Closes A Record Breaking Season With PALM SPRINGS POPS

Capping off another successful season of shows for the Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus will be a tour-de-force celebration of the popular music of our lifetime with "Palm Springs Pops." The beautiful and powerful vocal talents of local favorites Keisha D. and Charles Herrera, along with over 85 chorus voices, will sing songs of love, joy, loss and hope from Les Miserables, Something Rotten! and Hairspray in addition to one of George and Ira Gershwin's most prolific musicals Porgy & Bess. Tickets are only $25-$50 and group discounts automatically apply on orders of 10 or more.

"My philosophy this season has been to give the audience not just a concert, but a dynamic show. We are thrilled to end our 3-concert season with Keisha and Charles joining our program, who are two-of-the-most vibrant and in-demand performers in the Coachella Valley," said Douglas Wilson, Artistic Director.

In 2008, Keisha performed in "Open Call" at the McCallum Theatre, where she won the 'Best Vocals" Award and was instantly immersed in offers to sing. Her career often takes her to the theatrical stage and locally she has performed at the Palm Canyon Theatre in "Tommy," playing the Acid Queen, Fairy Godmother in "Cinderella," Melpomene in "Xanadu" and Motor Mouth Mabel in "Hairspray." She will reprise one of the hit songs from the later show "I Know Where I've Been" for "Palm Springs Pops."

In 2013, she was given the Shiny Apple Award by the Palm Springs Unified School District, honoring her work as a Board Member of the Palm Springs High School Art Institute for her work mentoring vocal students and dance team. Two of her favorite reoccurring gigs are with the Desert Winds Freedom Jazz Band and her weekly sultry performance at Dish Creative Cuisine's "Speak Easy." Keisha currently has a CD of standards called "Classic Keisha D."

Singer, actor, and cabaret artist, Charles Herrera has appeared throughout the United States and abroad in musicals, operettas, cabaret shows and theatrical productions. He has performed and produced his own critically acclaimed one-man shows in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Palm Springs. Charles is the recipient of three Desert Star Awards, all in the cabaret/variety show category.

Charles can be seen in the successful musical tribute show PALM SPRINGS JUMP! The Purple Room Supper Club show also features local cabaret entertainers, Michael Holmes, Darci Daniels and Joel Baker, PSGMC's principal accompanist. "I am thrilled to be making my debut appearance with the Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus," said Charles.

The chorus' new performance home for the 2016-17 season is The Richards Center for the Arts at Palm Springs High School. The 869-seat venue was taken into a 2-year upgrade project with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, new seating, enlarged orchestra pit, acoustical ceiling tile installation and extensive backstage facilities.
