The Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles Are Holding Auditions

Registration to audition for PSYE's 2015-16 season is now open. The 2014 season saw 430 musicians audition, of which 227 were accepted, representing 72 schools program wide.

Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles (PSYE), a premier performance program, nurturing and inspiring young artists through three performing groups that benefit from the artistic advisement of Music Director Carl St.Clair. Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, led by Alejandro Gutiérrez, provides more than 100 string, wind and percussion musicians in grades 9-12 with intense orchestral training. Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble, led by Gregory X. Whitmore, provides wind and percussion musicians in grades 8-12 the opportunity to refine their skills in a high-quality and innovative environment. Auditions are held Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, as well as Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14. The deadline to register is Friday, May 1 with an application fee of $25. For more information, visitPacificSymphony.org/PSYE or email PSYE@PacificSymphony.org.

Auditions take place at UC Irvine, where the ensembles rehearse. PSYE performs in the world-class Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall and at venues across Orange County.

As Maestro St.Clair states, "Learning to play an instrument develops creativity, teamwork, leadership and self-discipline-all critical skills required to succeed today." In addition to concert performance and instruction, students engage in a variety of interactions with Pacific Symphony musicians including sectional coaching, master classes and side-by-side performances. Each ensemble enjoys an annual weekend retreat, and members receive free and/or discounted tickets to Pacific Symphony performances throughout the season.
