Symphony Space Artistic Director Laura Kaminsky has announced her resignation, effective March 30, 2014. Differences in artistic vision for the future of Symphony Space have motivated this decision to pursue other opportunities.

Ms. Kaminsky first collaborated with Founding Artistic Director Isaiah Sheffer to program the spring 2006 Wall to Wall Stravinsky, and was hired as Music Curator in July 2006. She assumed the role of Associate Artistic Director under Mr. Sheffer in 2008, and was promoted to Artistic Director in 2010, succeeding him. In her seven years with Symphony Space, Ms. Kaminsky produced numerous multidimensional projects such as the international Wall to Wall Behind the Wall: Music from the Soviet Era. Other highlights included: Jeremy Denk in his first performance of the "Goldberg" Variations; Ursula Oppens performing Elliott Carter's piano music on his 100th birthday; the world premiere of the multi-media project Portals, featuring Tim Fain performing Philip Glass; the two-year project Liaisons: Reimagining Sondheim for the Piano; and the annual Music of Now Marathon. Under Ms. Kaminsky's tenure, Symphony Space was twice recognized with the national ASCAP/Chamber Music America Award for Adventurous Programming, and largely focused on presenting the works of living composers. "I have been honored to work with outstanding artists, staff, and partners at Symphony Space, and am proud that the institution is in such a strong position with its dynamic programming and widely acknowledged artistic innovation. It is with abiding respect that I announce my departure," says Ms. Kaminsky.

Symphony Space's President and CEO, Cynthia Elliott, states, "In Laura's years with Symphony Space, she has brought cohesion and accomplishment to the institution as Artistic Director, and her many initiatives as music curator have garnered important recognition for Symphony Space. We wish Laura the best in future endeavors, and we are grateful for her contributions to the institution." Symphony Space's Board Chair Steven Aresty adds, "It has been my pleasure to lead during Laura's tenure at Symphony Space, and I join everyone in wishing Laura all the best in this next phase of her impressive career."

The search for Ms. Kaminsky's successor will commence immediately.
