Sinfonia Toronto Kicks Off 2012-2013 Season Tonight, 10/27
Sinfonia Toronto has just announced its 2012-2013 season, the orchestra's 14th under the artistic direction of conductor Nurhan Arman. Next season the orchestra will again present a 7-concert Masterpiece Series featuring a rich variety of guest artists. All concerts except the season's opening concert will take place in Glenn Gould Studio. The series will open tonight, October 27 with a special Gala Concert at George Weston Recital Hall featuring the cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan. Mr. Hakhnazaryan became an instant sensation last June when he won the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow. Tonight's October 27 concert with Sinfonia Toronto will be Mr. Hakhnazaryan's Canadian debut.
Other prominent guest soloists to appear in the 2012-2013 season are Canadian pianists Angela Cheng and Dmitri Levkovich, one of the world's great violists Rivka Golani, violinist Alexandre Da Costa, Italian flute virtuoso Mario Carbotta, internationally renowned Canadian clarinetist Julian Milkis, Sinfonia Toronto Concertmaster Mary-ElizaBeth Brown, and Toronto pianist Anastasia Rizikov. The 13-year old piano prodigy Anastasia Rizikov made the headlines when she won the adult level of the Rotary international Competition in Spain at the age of 11.
In making the announcement Maestro Arman commented "I am thrilled with the combination of fantastic soloists and amazing repertoire that we'll be presenting to Toronto audiences. I particularly want to mention our collaboration with the phenomenal cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan, who will also tour to Montreal with us, and the premieres of works by several living composers. I am delighted that we're continuing our Composer-in-Residence program next season with the very distinguished Toronto composer Chan Ka Nin."G
