'The Grizzly Bear's Eyelash' Shares Effects of Traumatic Events on a Family

To grant her wish, the witch sends the woman on a quest to retrieve a freshly plucked eyelash from a grizzly bear. This heartwarming journey leads Miyaku to learn powerful life lessons about patience and compassion, as well as find the inner strength she didn't know she had.

"There are deep psychological and emotional scars that form after a disturbing or traumatic experience, such as depression or anxiety" Paolino said. "With The Grizzly Bear's Eyelash, I want to show the need for patience when dealing with these unseen injuries. At the same time, we all need to show empathy for those struggling with special or different circumstances that we can't understand. "The Grizzly Bear's Eyelash," was the 2006 winner of the Silver Award for Prose (Farfalla d'Argento) at the XXIV National 50 & Più Competition in Italy.
