Intended for children ages nine to 99, "Poems for Children" (published by AuthorHouse) by Terry J. Powell is the author's attempt to encourage younger generations to explore and enjoy their heritage.

"Poetry is part of our culture and has been for tens of thousands of years," Powell says. "The older generation knows this and takes the enjoyment of poetry for granted."

All of Powell's poems are original, written from his perspective and based on his own observations, but as is the nature of poetry, he hopes readers' interpretations of each poem allows them to enjoy it and make it their own.

"Poems for Children" paints pictures with words, each poem having its own story to tell on varying topics from a multitude of events and Powell's personal observations.

Powell admits that at one time he had trouble understanding poetry, but he hopes to encourage readers to enjoy the different poems he has written, regardless of their ability to write their own poetry.
