Author T.S. Bola takes readers back to "One Bad Night in Mexico" (published by Xlibris), recounting how they narrowly survived being shot at by members of a drug cartel. With this true story and a collection of meditative poetry, Bola shares the spiritual realizations he gained from his escape from death and his rekindled relationship with God.

The story begins in Durango, Mexico, when Bola and Aristeo, his father-in-law, were attacked by the Escamilla family. Their pickup truck was riddled with bullets fired by seven men with automatic rifles. They were mistaken for rival gangsters, but when the Escamillas found them inside the ruined truck, they realized their mistake and fled, leaving the two men to bleed to death. Bola and Aristeo survived in a miracle that made the author realize that life is a precious gift from God, which he can give and take away at whim.

The narrative portrays what happened after this violent incident, how Bola and his family struggled to survive and earn a living during that tumultuous period in the region between Mexico and the USA. Afterwards, Bola shares a hundred of his poems, bookending his sobering exploration of violence in the Americas, the struggles of the survivors and the renewed spirituality they can find in their lives.
