Few stories about anxiety and depression are as inspiring as Suzanne Jessee's. Nearly 25 years ago, she was hospitalized for crippling levels of each, and was also diagnosed with panic disorder and early-stage agoraphobia. What could have been the beginning of a long, slow downward spiral became a pivotal turning point in Jessee's life-one that led her to become a master's level clinician, meditation guru, and author as well as an inspirational and educational speaker. On February 3, 2015 her new book, Escape Anxiety, will launch to help readers plagued with the same issues she once faced.

Curiosity proved to be a vital element that put Jessee on the path toward her current career. When she became ill, she felt a driving need to understand her illness. Her many questions led her to engaging with it as a field of study; she ultimately underwent years of schooling, training, and clinical experience. Escape Anxiety is based on a program Jessee herself developed to treat patients with anxiety disorders at the Betty Ford clinic.

During her time at the Betty Ford clinic, Jessee received positive feedback for her program, but was somewhat discouraged by the realization that so many cannot get treatment-in many ways, it is only available to a privileged few. She also believes that the set of tools in her book would have been an asset when she herself was sick. In fact, she says, "The therapies used to treat anxiety are the exact same as those used to prevent it." Escape Anxiety is an affordable alternative for so many who cannot pay for the treatment at a clinic, and Jessee is thrilled to have found a way to provide a type of first-rate mental health care that can be used in the comfort of the reader's own home.
