The Egyptian and Welsh gods walk again, this time on the streets of the modern world! The Blade of Anubis is the action-packed sequel to The Chronicles of Stranger-full of danger, mysteries, surprise twists, magic, and battles. In this book, Stranger, the boy prophesized to save everything on earth from Chaotic oblivion, now thirteen, truly begins his training as a magician and god. Adjeoda Tekpor proves he has exceptional writing talent for one so young in that he takes care to develop his narrative from out of Stranger's internal development. As Stranger starts to discover who he really is, readers will find it a compelling and believable plot device-telling an awesome adventure story out of Stranger's evolving maturity.

Tekpor takes the ancient Egyptian gods and their world out of museum dust and refurbishes them with new resumes. He mixes in the nature deities of the Druids of ancient Wales. These gods have offered Stranger a spot at their god training camp-it's a decision that might change his life forever. If he passes, Stranger will just be in time to join in the fight against the mind-boggling evil created out of the Great Serpent of Chaos' essence that had inadvertently seeped out of his otherworldly prison. The Egyptian and Welsh pantheons are well-utilized by the author's hero-the many animal totems are iconic and are related to climatological and cosmic phenomena which turn nasty when their "rules" are broken-the result is chaos and the demonic doppelgangers of the gods come out to wreak havoc on earth and ravage its hapless mortals.

Yet Stranger takes more onto his already laden shoulders. Anubis has disappeared, and Stranger has taken it upon himself to find him. Without Anubis, the underworld is packed up and unmoving-Egyptian religious belief always takes the afterlife into account. It is a dimension which creates much of earthly reality for the Egyptian pantheon. Without Anubis, the souls of the damned cannot be judged and the world's foundations will weaken. A strange woman in white keeps appearing to Stranger:

"Before he blacked out, he was caught by a pair of strong hands. He could see a woman's face above him. She had regal features and kohl-lined eyes. She wore a white dress trimmed with gold. She looked like a painting of Cleopatra Stranger had seen."

Who is she, and what does she want from him? Can Stranger prepare himself for what's to come and save the world? And what of the Welsh side of the equation? The pacing is good, the narrative articulate and compelling, and Tekpor is well on the way to making Stranger an icon of today's youth.
