"If it weren't for God in our lives, we wouldn't and couldn't have a good, strong direction for our lives. We would just be wandering. That's why so many kids are having such big problems with drugs and gangs, and lots of them come from broken homes, and that really hurts people." So, Will Talon tells his son, Davey, in Robert Maurice Talley's first novel, "Slingshot: King David's Slingshot" (published by WestBow Press).

Talley draws upon his own boyhood use of a slingshot to tell the story of Davey, a boy so enamored with the story of David and Goliath that he becomes an expert with a slingshot. Davey doesn't realize that his skill with the slingshot his father made for him will lead him into adventures. He will have to use this skill to help himself and others out of trouble.

Talley's novel teaches the value of Christian principles to the reader while also engaging him or her in the adventures Davey faces. Christian parents will appreciate the example Davey's parents set as they work to bring their son up in the way he should go.
