Author Rita Kirchgassner's father grew up in 1917 without his father and went on to narrowly survive World War II. Kirchgassner tells of her father's life in her new book, "Semper Anticus" (published by Inspiring Voices).

Robert Kirchgassner served in the European Theater during World War II in the 157th Infantry. He once came close to dying during battle. He was brought off the battlefield, severely wounded. His blood pressure was 0/0, but he managed to pull through and survived the war.

"Semper Anticus" provides a daily accounting of the 157th Infantry Regiment's service during World War II. Throughout the book, Kirchgassner provides commentary by her father, family and military historians. She also provides a glimpse into the Kirchgassner family history.

"To think that so many like my father, did not hesitate to answer when destiny called, enlisted to serve their country and to free unknown people from oppression and hate filled ideology," Kirchgassner says. "Our way of life that we enjoy in America today, is the direct result of the men and women who served during WWII."
