Rochelle Caruso Flynn Presents New Children's Book

Pediatrician and author Rochelle Caruso Flynn has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Her unique perspective as both doctor and patient led her to write a new, colorfully illustrated and imaginative book meant specifically for children with ASD and their parents and caregivers, in hopes of helping them understand and accept this disorder.

Floppy Lop-Ears is the main character of "Floppy Lop-Ears Tries to Get 'Off the Spectrum'" (published by AuthorHouse). He's a young bunny who knows that he is different - he gets really upset when his routine changes, always has to do things a certain way and his classmates make fun of him, calling him names and saying he's weird.

His parents decide to have him evaluated and Floppy is diagnosed with ASD. Floppy tries creative ways to "get off the spectrum" to be just like everyone else, but ultimately learns to accept himself for who he is.

"It is a funny, entertaining story about accepting oneself and the cute things that a young bunny tries to get rid of a condition that makes him different, so that he can become just like everyone else and not get teased," Flynn says.

In a realistic but positive way, Flynn presents Floppy and his parents to help demonstrate ASD for readers. She also includes "Parents' Pages" at the end of the book to give parents insight into her unique viewpoint, tackling issues such as whether vaccinations cause autism and ways to help a child dealing with ASD.
