Set in the volatile landscape of the U.S. slavery era, "The Locket: A Story of Undying Love" (published by Trafford Publishing) is the story of a slave named Leah and Jared, her owner's son, who fall deeply in love and are caught trying to escape to northern states. Leah is sold and Jared is sent to his uncle's home, where Jared dies in a freak accident.

After the war, Leah and Jared's son, Jared, sets out with a locket holding his father's picture on a quest to find him. Instead, the junior Jared finds his grandfather and brings his parents' story full circle 30 years later.

"It's a story of undying love and its trials and tribulation that overcomes its adversity," author Robert E. Emin says, adding that the story is relevant to society today, because, "It fits right in with it, because the story is as old as the human race itself."

Dylan Ward from The US Review of Books described this novel as "a reminder of our flawed pasts" and "a testament that love truly does conquer all."

An excerpt from "The Locket" reads:

"Tell your father that I never stopped loving him... tell him I've forgiven him." That was all she could muster. She had forgiven him years earlier, forgiven him for failing to find her and his son. She had never questioned him for forsaking them, for it wasn't within her to do. It was her love for him and her faith that gave her the strength to carry on all those years."
