Pegasus Books Releases THE TENOR by Peter Danish

The Tenor was pre-released in late-February, and the novel has received enthusiastic reviews from readers across America and across the seas. The Tenor is available at from all major retailers and on the Internet in print (hardcover - 978-0-9910993-5-1/and paperback - 978-0-9910993-4-4) and in eBook form.

The Tenor is a sweeping tale of historical fiction in the style of Ann Patchett's Bel Canto and De Burniere's Captain Corelli's Mandolin. It swiftly moves from PinoVaggi's youth in pre-war Italy, to his coming of age as a soldier in war-torn Greece, before ending in a shattering surprise finale at Maria Callas' historic final performance ever on the stage of New York's Metropolitan Opera House in 1965. It is based loosely on the stories and anecdotes that the author learned from several of Maria Callas' personal friends and from nearly a dozen trips to Italy and Greece to research the subject.

At Pegasus Books, we were very excited about The Tenor by Peter Danish from the moment we first read it. A great storyteller, Mr. Danish captures the spirit and nuances of a bygone era in the backdrop of World War II, as a young opera singer turned soldier befriends and protects the young Maria Callas. More than a book about a compelling character, The Tenor is revealing about relationships and wartime Europe. The book possesses the sense of nostalgia, sadness, mystery and unpredictability we look for in the books we publish, and we have found Peter Danish to be an incredible author. We are certain we will see this book on bestseller lists and hope to publish all Peter Danish's future works!

Early Reviews:

"Mr. Danish's clever use of the history of one of the greatest voices ever to sing, Maria Callas, and a little known part of that history, her early life during turbulent times in the world, gives this a truly romantic and involving idea.... I loved it and any opera lover would too. Easy, readable and knowledgeable about life, music and all the stuff that happens in between....!"

Aprile Millo, Metropolitan Opera Star

"Mr. Danish's exceeding knowledge of and passion for the medium of opera suffuses every line of this Cinderella narrative, one that provides a thrill ride for both the novice and the seasoned opera fan. The Tenor is impossible to put down...."

Samuel Juliano, Wonders in the Dark
