In Peter Sidebotham's new book, "Growing Up to Be a Child: A paediatrician explores Jesus' invitation to 'become like a little child'" (published by WestBow Press), he takes an in-depth look at Matthew 18:3, which quotes Jesus as saying, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

"Through the pages of the book I look at the amazing process of child development, drawing lessons from this for our own spiritual development as followers of Jesus," Sidebotham says.

Written as a letter to Sidebotham's daughter, Esther, "Growing Up to Be a Child" offers the author's unique perspectives as a doctor and father interested in helping his child on her journey of faith. Though initially written specifically with Esther in mind, Sidebotham explores truths and insights that he says are applicable to all who seek to follow Jesus.

"Jesus sets us an incredible challenge: we can't be a part of God's kingdom unless we change and become like children, developing attitudes of humility, trust, creativity, exploration and relationship," Sidebotham says. "This radical new way of living that God is calling us to encompasses the whole of our lives: our bodies, our minds, our relationships and our spirits."
