When author, Patrick Ord, first published The Curtain - A Novel in March of 2013, he only aspired to gain readers' attention. Now, only five months later, Ord's aspirations have become a reality.

"I knew I had really captured reader interest when almost nine thousand copies were downloaded in just the first month," Ord said, "and that was with no marketing budget. Most people don't realize that businesses gather so much data about them and they don't understand how that data is being used. I thought this premise would make for a compelling story and it looks like I struck a nerve."

Readers apparently agree as The Curtain's reviews on Amazon (see http://amazon.com/author/patrickord) and Goodreads continue to average in the 4+ / 5 range.

"The Curtain has caused readers to think about the powerful influence that clever marketers have on all of our decisions-not just on what we decide to buy but to the foundation of who we think we are," continues Ord. "The crash of the financial markets in 2008 served as a catalyst for me. It exposed what many people had only suspected before, that two classes of people had formed: 1) those that manipulate others for profit and 2) those that are manipulated for profit. Most of us fall into the second category but there are ways that we can fight back. Educated consumers have tremendous power-especially in our digital age. The Curtain was my attempt to explore these dynamics and channel that sentiment in a productive way."

And so when Ord had the opportunity to produce an audio book of his novel with acclaimed narrator RC Bray, he jumped at the chance. Bray was equally as enthusiastic.

"The Curtain will have you dissecting every lyric of today's music, every scene sequence on TV and in movies, and every piece of junk mail that comes your way - both "e" and snail," Bray says. "You might even completely 'unplug' for a while in order to take stock of who you are. Or rather who you think you chose to be. Ord's beautifully sculpted prose weaves a highly informative, insanely eye-opening, truly frightening must read for our times."
