On September 5, 2016, Nicholas Bridgman will release his first novel, A Character in Reality. The novel follows the adventures of the fictional character Detective Robert Gladstone, who gains consciousness and steps out of the narrator's fiction into reality. He gradually adjusts to the real world with the narrator's help, picking up insights along the way about what it means to be human.

The novel makes readers rethink their conception of reality, while at the same time addressing pertinent issues in today's global society. Viewing Gladstone's fictional reality as a construct of the narrator represents an almost psychotic change in perspective. Issues that arise from this include the current important topic of illegal immigration. People in the real world opposed to illegal immigration protest Gladstone's presence, arguing that people from fiction belong in fiction, not in reality. Gladstone must face down the leader of these protesters, and along the way persuade the American public to accept him, so he can self-actualize as a real person.

Nicholas Bridgman holds B.A.'s ('03) in Rhetoric and Integrative Biology from U.C. Berkeley, and has written over fifty short stories. His novel is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple iBooks, Kobo, and Smashwords.
