"The Mirror Inside: A Journey to Finding Answers to Ulcerative Colitis from Within" by Zoe Chloe Douglas can be downloaded for Kindle at http://amzn.to/1nUxRa3, purchased in hardcover format at http://amzn.to/Uywu5H or downloaded for Barnes & Noble Nooks at http://bit.ly/1nB0YQi.

Douglas' childhood in East Germany was emotionally, psychologically and physically oppressive and suppressive, significantly impacting her health. After the Berlin Wall fell, she moved to the United States, determined to get a job, learn English and meet new people. But she was a product of the environment that she grew up in and ultimately surrounded herself with negative people and relationships.

Her early life struggles culminated in being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC), a painful, chronic autoimmune disease of the colon that affects nearly 500,000 Americans and forces its victims to live in constant fear of debilitating flair-ups and embarrassment.

Every UC sufferer's journey and situation is different. The Mirror Inside is not a step-by-step manual that reveals a magic formula of how to beat UC. Instead, it is one 37-year-old woman's exploration of her past to better understand her present and in turn, empower those with UC and their loved ones to better understand and manage the condition in the hopes of achieving remission.

In her book, Douglas addresses issues like stress and toxic relationships, food, embracing spiritualism, building support structures, surgery, holistic alternatives and achieving remission to help others piece together their own recovery strategy to achieve a high quality of life.

"I have learned so much in my own personal journey with Ulcerative Colitis, and what I've learned has proven invaluable in improving the quality of my life," Douglas said. "I wrote this book to share the knowledge I've curated with others who suffer from this difficult condition. There is life after a UC diagnosis, and I'm living proof."
