MoneySmarts4U: The Basics is Released

For many people, financial issues - and understanding how to manage them- is a scary proposition. Now, a new book, MoneySmarts4U: The Basics by Barbie O'Connor, provides a welcome road map to understanding money. Using questions that encourage self-reflection, O'Connor demystifies money and provides sound strategies for improving one's financial self.

MoneySmarts4U: The Basics is written in 12 chapters, each devoted to a different area of money basics. "Week One: Life Goals" sets the stage for the rest of the book and can be extremely helpful to young adults graduating from high school or college with a new degree. While "Week Eight: Money before Marriage" encourages the reader to consider not only how he or she views money but their potential spouse's relationship with it.

When asked the reason for the book, O'Connor explains, "My goal is to show people at many stages of life, principles for a healthy relationship with money. Whether you are just starting out or starting over after divorce or a death, money plays a significant role. I want people to understand money as a tool that can give you the life you want."

MoneySmarts4U: The Basics uses conversational language and is broken up into digestible topics and short reading segments. Taken a week at a time, the reader will gain knowledge, tips and have the opportunity for self-reflection as their view of money transforms.

Barbie O'Connor spends most of her time helping other people manage their money. During the seventeen years as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch, she managed over $100 million for her clients. When she retired as a vice-president in 1995, she went on to run an Indy Car team whose car raced in both the 1995 and 1996 Indy 500 races.
