Author Mary Crandell believes that, "Involvement in the fine and performing arts is a vital part of children's intellectual and emotional development." Being a music educator and advocate of the arts herself, Crandell publishes the first book of an upcoming series that helps young minds explore and develop their passion for music and the arts.

"Little Miss Mary Discovers: Music Outside Her Window" (published by Xlibris), the first in its series, is designed to introduce children to music through the natural process of discovery. Arguably, the mind is at its most creative during early childhood. Crandell (author) and Elizabeth Heuther (illustrator) hope that Little Miss Mary ignites children's love of the arts while nurturing and strengthening the natural creativity of the young mind.

In this vividly illustrated read, children will join Little Miss Mary as she discovers how to make her own music by listening to nature and remembering past experiences such as hearing a marching band in a parade. As "Little Miss Mary Discovers" illuminates the music in the children's natural surroundings, it provides hands-on strategies for children to discover and create their own music, and offers parents an opportunity to share a creative activity with their young ones.

About the Author
A music educator, author Mary Crandell developed her passion for teaching, learning and serving from her parents who were also music educators. She serves the community and country through her church and the 43rd Army National Guard Band. Much like its writer, "Little Miss Mary" sets out to reveal avenues for children to creatively explore their environment and find joy in discovering the arts.

From crayons to watercolors, Elizabeth Huether has been refining her visual expression from an early age, continuing studies at Iowa State University and presently educating young artists. Huether has a passion for helping others find their own artistic voice, and enjoys sharing arts experiences with her two children as well as her middle school art students. Through illustrating "Little Miss Mary," Huether desires to share the benefits of a life-long exploration of the fine arts.
