It is estimated that 60 percent of young, middle-class children in the Western world use blankets, stuffed toys and pillows to soothe themselves during times of discomfort and bed time, according to wahm.com.

These security blankets, pacifiers, teddy bears, stuffed animals and nightlights are commonly known to provide children with a sense of security, particularly at bedtime. Teacher and author, Pam Saxelby, writes new children's picture book, outlining the significance these tangible items may be to a child.

Saxelby's new picture book, "Max and Bear," shares the important message about the significance and security children receive from cherished comforters, such as stuffed animals and blankets, with a new, fun and entertaining book to share.

"I wrote this book after looking for the right inspiration and words to tell a relatable story that both kids and parents would enjoy, and hopefully make them smile," Saxelby said. "The idea for this story came following a trip I got to take with my daughter, Anne, and the real-life Max, the half bear and half blanket."

Though Saxelby's been a preschool teacher for more than 20 years, witnessing the attachment children have to their specific item of choice, her new book is based on the true story of her grandson Max and his journey to discover and find his trusted friend, Bear.

"I fell in love with the genre and truly have been in love with children's books since my first college literature for children's course," Saxelby said. "This is my first book and I hope to delight audiences with many Max and Bear adventures!"
