TUCSON, Ariz.

In a dystopian world, a young girl sets out to find out who she is. This is the driving premise behind author L.J. Boles new novel, "The Grey Beginning" (published by Archway Publishing), the first book in a planned series.

Far into the future after the sixth extinction of Earth, Grey, a young headstrong girl, is sent out to find her place in the future with her family. She learns to survive through the many obstacles she encounters. Grey soon learns that she has special skills that she will have to control if she wants to earn her rightful place in the world.

"'The Grey Beginning' is a story of one person becoming strong in an adverse situation," Boles says. "The book produces many emotions for the reader such as fear, worry, happiness and wonder."

An excerpt from "The Grey Beginning":

"The spirit guides watched as Grey became sad and then angry and then resigned to her situation in life. They were her personal guides, and so far she had not called on them while on this journey. They worried she had forgotten about them; maybe she needed a nudge of remembrance. They still wanted to protect her because they believed in her."
