With mental health month having just recently ended, author Katherine M. Chin - who suffers from bipolar disorder - joins the ranks of celebrities and others, doing her part to help break down the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Chin presents readers with a personal and autobiographical story about her own journey with mental illness in her new book, "How to Manage Mental Illness: My Hope and Faith" (published by Lulu). She shares her experiences navigating the sometimes difficult terrain of the mental health community and shows how she overcame the strong social stigma and limitations to live a happy, healthy, flourishing life with mental illness.

"Real knowledge about mental illness is needed for awareness," Chin says. "Celebrities are open about their mental health. My book talks about people who need help and can get it."

"How to Manage Mental Illness" offers practical guidance and advice, as well as commentary on the state of the mental health profession and community. Chin hopes to help readers to recognize that it's OK to be mentally ill.

An excerpt from "How to Manage Mental Illness":

"I want to share these myths and facts about mental illness because I know people have the wrong notion about bipolar in general."
