Author Kasey Coory brings to life a transcription of his grandfather's diary which portrays a pious man in contrast to his incestuous and abusive maternal grandfather. His new historical fiction, "Condemn Not My Children: The Consequences of Pious Evil" (published by Balboa Press AU), explores strong women and the betrayal they endured.

In the sweeping saga set in New Zealand, women from several generations of two families deal with the heartbreak of betrayal from those they most trusted. When a deviant priest violates a nun, she is sworn to silence by the church in order to avoid a scandal-and then married off to the priest's older brother, with unforeseen consequences. Near the end of the 19th century, two families immigrate to New Zealand, sparking a story that will follow both from that time through the middle of the twentieth century. As an unholy liaison interweaves the two groups, the emotional tapestry is unraveled and rewoven by women of the following generations, each with her own story of heartbreak and courage.

An excerpt from "Condemn Not My Children":

"A silent whimper noticed only by the boy escaped with the fading resolve of his mother. As Dorina stared at the floor, her shoulders drooped. She turned towards the door. There was a desolate emptiness in her eyes. That look of despair when exhausted emotions have run the gauntlet of suffering and have come to anaesthetise the senses that register pain."
