According to recent statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day, because of fear of bullying.

In Jon Reeves' new book, "My Name is Tom," we meet one such victim of bullying. "Tom," like many other adolescents, is just looking for acceptance and to find his place in this world. He develops a passionate love for music, but gets caught up in England's drug scene of the 1980s and early '90s.

"Tom is basically the person I wanted to be back then," said Reeves, "and, also, the person that I sometimes wish I hadn't been."

"My Name is Tom" is a coming-of-age story about friends, drugs, cultural influence on music trends, and a desire to belong, set to the soundtrack of the main character's growing music obsession. Through humor and gained self-confidence, Tom attempts to defy bullies and reclaim his life and his prized record collection.

"If someone said, one day, that my story helped them to deal with their bullies more effectively," Reeves said," then it would be job done for me."
