About the Author
John Pollard was born on June 14, 1942 in Sydney, Australia. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1963 and was awarded a scholarship to study for a Ph.D. in mathematical statistics in Cambridge, England. He completed his degree in 1967 and married Carys in Wales. After a post-doctoral year at the University of Chicago, they returned to Wales wherein they set out on their drive to India. He commenced employment at Macquarie University in Sydney in December, 1968. They remained there until his retirement at the age of 60 in 2002. By that stage, he had been a professor for 26 years and dean of the largest faculty of the university, Economic and Financial Studies. He and his wife have four children and six grandchildren.
