DUNKIRK, Md.

Duty, honor and country. Author John M. Bede holds them very close to his heart. His unwavering patriotism and his memories of serving in the United States Army during the early part of the Vietnam War has inspired him to write "Patriot's Abound" (published by Xlibris), a story crafted around the derring-do aviators doing clandestine operations for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) under the guise of being an airliner called Air America.

Bede draws upon his considerable knowledge in military operations and his keen interest in aviation to create a believable setting with Air America being an actual CIA operation. The characters and their story may be fictional, but he uses his experience to color his depiction of these characters such that they sound like actual military operatives complete with the use of actual army and aviation jargon. Bede skillfully entwines a compelling tale of romance into all the action, adding an emotional tension that raises his characters from simple, risk-taking mavericks to human, emotive patriots.

To love and be loved in return, romance and the pursuit of happiness melded with fast-paced action; these are the underlying themes in Bede's novel. He believes these will call to the reader's sense of being an American, a tale of patriotism meant to stir the flames burning in their hearts.
