Author John K. Sutherland is fascinated by the American Civil War. He believes that while the Proclamation of Emancipation changed so many lives for the better, it also brought hardship and uncertainty to others. This historical event inspired him to write "...In Love And War" (published by Xlibris), a story of two people who fall in love despite having been on opposite sides of that war, yet sharing the same overall principles.

Elizabeth Belding, a young woman from Mississippi, takes the law into her own hands to ensure that a murder shall not take place. However, to do that, she must commit a murder herself -the murder of her own father. She must also write a will to ensure that she controls the property and the destiny of the slaves after that act by limiting her brother's inheritance. After the war, others, including her vengeful brother, have plans for that young woman and her estate, but standing in their way is an interloper, a violent intruder who fortuitously came into her life on a killing mission. And he's a Yankee.

"...In Love And War" harks back to the Civil War years, briefly touching upon the war between the Confederate South and the Northern States as well as the ongoing conflict within the Belding estate. In this story of a family's impending destruction, readers will follow the protagonist who faces her own nightmare as the Civil War rages on.

Sutherland blends romance into the turmoil surrounding the Civil War, making his novel appealing to both romance and adventure enthusiasts.
