GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo., May 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Jon Naga Gyi, formerly John Handley, writes of meeting a woman online, falling in love, and moving to her native country, Myanmar (formerly Burma). A 36-year-old American engineer, he becomes CEO of SAIL, a Myanmar advertising agency, and eventually, a top-selling singer-songwriter inspired by the Myanmar culture and its most significant underpinning, Theravada Buddhism.

Though he initially enters this third-world, military-run country with great trepidation, he soon learns that the Myanmar people are at heart no different from Americans in their aspirations, hopes and fears. Setting aside politics and religious differences, Jon connects with people from all walks of life. He mentors a number of them through his expansion of SAIL and when creating and distributing his music and video albums.

In his first advertising pitch, Jon wins the job, creating with his wife a highly successful HIV/AIDS prevention campaign described by The Financial Times as "clever, culturally sensitive marketing."

In the soon to be released second and third parts of this three-part memoir, Jon describes the difficulty of doing business in Myanmar as a foreigner and how he almost renounced his American citizenship to gain a stronger foothold in the business world. He also talks about his foray into novice monkhood, the disintegration of his marriage, and his eventual return to the United States.

John Handley legally changed his name to Jon Naga Gyi in 2016. He lives in Glenwood Springs, Colorado with his dog Smarty Jones. Jon Gyi was the CEO of SAIL Group of Companies in Myanmar. Previously, he was a program manager at GE and Manager of strategic planning at Alstom.
