"THE MONROEIANS: The Pine Street Blues Collective" (published by Archway Publishing) is a collection of life stories from the Black citizens of Monroe and Northeast Louisiana. Spanning a 100-year period, these stories portray experiences living in the segregated south, childhood and family histories, work, education, religion, relationships, and movement from one place to another.

Inspired by his love for biographies, author James O. McHenry, Ed.D., was also influenced by his "passion and love for my family, my hometown, its people, their genealogies, desire for more of the unknown history of the people and the region, and my memories of childhood, friendships, church, community, and school."

"The Monroeians" explores the power of the human spirit and strength of character. It provides examples of how to withstand, adapt and overcome the adverse conditions of being Black in America.

"I suggest that biographies can allow the reader to see farther (often into a different era) and learn from other's experiences. Readers can gain background, ideas, and approaches for the decisions and consequences that we all face."
