In 1950s Western Australia, relations are tense between whites and Aborigines. But for little Jimmy and his brother, Gun, it is a time to create their own fun, find trouble and wriggle their way out of it.

Gun is slick, popular and seemingly indestructible. Jimmy is a skinny kid who cannot run as fast as Gun. But when their mother suddenly abandons them, everything changes. Their father puts Gun in charge of caring for his siblings, and Jimmy is left to wander the neighborhood, where he meets an aboriginal girl, Poppy, who teaches him aboriginal secrets. As the two cultures intertwine, Gun makes a decision that leads to valuable lessons and unthinkable new events as life changes once again.

In this action-adventure novel, "My Brother Gun" (published by Balboa Press AU), two brothers growing up in 1950s Australia create a bond with aboriginals while on a unique journey of self-discovery enhanced by tribal folklore and magic.

Author James B. Clifton says the book "speaks of values, friendships, what it was like to do without and to make your own fun regardless of whether you had money, social position or religious beliefs. It is about how kids used to accept people as they found them and just got on with life, having adventures and finding excitement in everything."
