EVANSTON, Ill. - Jahed Rahman, author of the autobiography "Bends and Shades," returns to the world of literature with the release of "Indu" (published by Xlibris). This new book tells the story of two teenagers who find love, identity and security in the midst of religious conflict, political intrigue, oppression and class wars.

The eponymous Indu is a young woman who belongs to an impoverished, lower caste Hindu family. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Shetu, a young boy from an affluent Muslim family of what was then East Pakistan. The two begin to develop feelings for each other but their relationship is complicated by their starkly different backgrounds. In the story that unfolds, Rahman examines relationship, social norms, age-old tradition and identity.

Riveting from beginning to end, "Indu" is a deeply moving, multilayered story of love tested by the vicissitudes of life and of the tough decisions that inevitably come at some point in any person's journey.
